Gorgeous post and getting me in the mood for V day. I am going to be posting photos of some little Valentine collages I made for friends and family on Feb 14th. It was my big art project for the year. lol Or perhaps bi-year as I rarely make things.

I am not sure where the tree over the judo studio came from. Windows, no doubt. I am a bit of a savant with a camera. I don’t know the rules and do whatever feels intuitive and sometimes get these special effects.

You should be happy as it is going to rain again tonight.

BTW I decided to come out from my ghostly persona.

Loved this sculpture of PUCK – it is astounding how detailed it is – she captured so much with her talent! I saw it today when I was at this Gallery!

Hi studiololo; I do spend a lot of time talking to people on facebook; a different group then those who blog in many cases. It is twitter that I don’t understand. facebook made it harder with that whole split newsfeed. It is better if you go into the left hand column and pull the tab called “status updates” to the top of the list and then it will make more sense. I also manage it more by placing categories of friends; local friends, childhood friends, blogging friends etc and then you can look at specific groups at one time. I think to change the email address you go -> settings -> personal settings and they let you add an email address; but i think you are right that you have to sign in with the old email address. stephanie; toilet to tap signs are up and down the highway 5; water is being taken from the area to grow crops and sent to LA; so they let all the crops go along there; it is brown and dead. I sent you my stat counters the other day, I think?

The rainbow was real time and huge. My daughter lives fifty miles away and she saw it too. Seems hard to believe.

Aravis; thanks so much. Yes – that is a blurry shot of the remains of a huge house on a huge hill. I have about 50 photos I have taken of it over time; all blurry. I can’t get a clear shot of it to save my soul. I have no idea what it is. I only know that it highly protected, they wont let people there and they dont tear it down. Intriguing to say the least! Your asking makes me want to do a search on it once again.
Deb; thanks so much. I am not sure what is going on with my camera – I took it in today. Everyshot was blue and when I allowed photoshop to correct them; they appear dark. Anyway; I liked that scene in real life as the trail goes to the two people and back again.

I like blurry motion shots. These allow me to capture a mood created by the scene rather than simply focusing on the details of the scene themselves.

In that third photo- is that what’s left of a house perched up there? Either way, these photos remind me of why I wouldn’t want a house on a cliff overlooking the beach. Too much erosion, too many houses falling into the sea.

But I’d want to be close all the same!

Here’s my unsolicited testimonial: I recently ordered and received 2 Scatterling prints and I couldn’t have been happier! Of course the artwork was gorgeous or I wouldn’t have ordered them. But they arrived quickly, in pristine condition, and the quality was excellent. These are all great and i love the way these two posts are your I’m a little bird series, and that you begin both posts with photographs of Little Birds. I like all of the prints but there is something about the expression on the one titled a touch of culture that kills me (kills me in a good way as in I love it).

These are great. I love the photograph and the sketch as well as the other art.

Back to work for me means go to my den/office at home, start up the computer and sign on to the network for the company I work for which has it’s main offices 32 miles away. I used to have to go to my car and fight horrendous traffic to get there. This is much nicer and I hate it when occasionally I have to work on site.

Great photos of the crows and thank you for the links. We saw so many crows in Santa Fe and so many artists using them…one gallery said the crow should be the New Mexican state bird.

I am a bear according to this site; Pragmatic, and methodical, level-headeded, usually the voice of reason in most scenarios…I agree, but have always thought those tendencies make for BORING!

This was a great post. Excellent photographs, quotes and commentary. The only part of California I’ve been to is San Francisco (my brother lives there). You did such a good job of capturing the heart and flavor of Venice Beach that I feel like I’ve been there now. I’ve never really wanted to go to southern California but I feel like I might feel at comfortable at Venice Beach.

What a nice series! Truly visualizations of man makes God since the images change so much. We saw a JOSEPH and Christ Child at the Kimbell (Ft. Worth) last week… and I was struck by how nice/non-sexist it was to see that pairing.
BTW: joint aches were definitely relieved by stopping the generic Relafen. I switched to an NSAID type of anti-inflammatory that WORKS and no itches so far. (Also had some very strange dreams after stopping the Relafen.) Let me know if you want the actual name of the new one.

I’ve burned a few, I’ve left some in places for folks to find and keep if they’re interested, given to individuals who’ve found some merit in them and I’ve kept the ones, that caused some type of break through in my work. I don’t burn them anymore, I’m thinking it does something to the environment!

Such an interesting post and I enjoyed both the paintings and your photographs.

I thought it funny what your mother said. My mother had a different saying. Back when people didn’t water as much and grass was brown all over town in the summer (even before the water restrictions we have now during droughts), we had one neighbor who always had green grass. This neighbor’s house was behind ours and quite large with a huge green lawn. My mother used to say, that’s money growing over there. Alluding to the fortune they put into watering.

On another topic you mentioned enjoying the antique road show. I went to that this summer when they came to my town. It was fun.

I love that natural painting of the landscape and the cows by William Keith. That is an absolutetly amazing piece! I also like what you have focused on through the captures of the cows in these photographs. They make great paintings and I love your backdrops of where you have passed through. Beautiful setting.

What an amazing creation. I love that the world is made with paper mache world-that defines earths very existence through trees, the breathing of all life.

You know I have been looking into making paper mache again, and one of these days I’ll rustle something up.

I love the contrast experiences of the windows and what they each represent in each picture, whilst at the same time reflecting a whole. The poem in the introduction expresses this.

I love shots of windows and doors. There’s something so intriguing about them! The one with the messy files? That reminds me of me right now. *G* The second one intrigues me, the yellow and blue (probably actually white blinds) is eye-catching, the scroll work elegant, and the one with the man makes me curious. This place is one of the few reasons I miss living in Southern California. The Huntington Library and the Gardens are simply among the best. The chair you feature is gorgeous and I’m sure many a youngster has climbed into it for a pose and a portrait.

oh… not made out of pumpkin shells; I just called it that because it looked like it was made of pumpkin shell. I would think they would need to be dried if used though – in a dehydrator. I did that with some of my items in the scatterlings.

lovely paintings, hay does look good in art….

I like the corn zombies,,,, in parts of germany they have a lot of quite large corn sculptures in the autumn, corn tractors and figures, wish I had some photos of them….

Yes, we had almost 4 inches!! I should get myself out there and take a few photos while it’s still interesting but woke up at 5am to a kitchen FULL of ants having a picnic in my sink! glad we got a good soak but the ants need to stay home!

annie; i didnt know you lived down there… I was thinking maybe this Christmas we would visit the Getty instead. It was so hot that day; how did you ever survive down there?

aravis; thanks – it was in the “rain forest” room in the huntington. there is also a cloud room there too; that is where the stinky plant was grown

I was thinking that the arm swing was the same as I posted the other day with the two boys and the dogs. I do wonder if these days, if even the traditional artists, have some underlying meaning in some colors and subject?

rivergarden; thanks so much – and thanks for remembering my daughter. she is teaching montessori toddlers in the morning and working with developmentally delayed teens in the afternoon as well as taking some classes at the college; expecting her to head back to graduate school in a year or so. Education here in Califronia; ohhhh you have read the news and probably know where all that originated from.

stephanie; poor mona; people either think she is adorable or wonder what she is; a lot of children will laugh. She is 13 now and has a disorder in her ears that make her feel lost so she will circle around in one direction. very sad to watch.

stephanie; that little pond was filled with frogs. thanks for noticing my for sale works. i have been trying to rearrange those pages for so long and am determined to do so. hoping my blog will change as I paint larger pieces and craft less. I am not sure about the banner. I am thinking going black and white so it won’t be too much here on the blog page to look at.

elk; thanks so much! trying to learn to get the correct setting on my camera for the bright sun. you know more about those things then i do. my whites are too bright and I have to bring them down in photoshop later; which muddies it. it is a process: me learning more how to use my camera.

Stephanie; Yes they are. I had no idea about the story behind the hudson river school painting theory. Looking at the story behind the paintings here at home has been quite the learning experience for me. I found it interesting how they collected these little memories and sketches for years and years to combine them into one painting. I wondered if they ever used the same sketch, such as sheep in the river, repeatedly.

Thanks for the tour and for the informative post. Your talking about the family with the Dad pointing things out reminds me of my Dad who was a gifted artist. He wouldn’t call himself an artist but he majored in art in college before going to theological seminary and becoming an Episcopalean minister.

He continued to take art classes when he had time his entire life, even studied in Italy for several months, after retiring from the ministry. What made me think of him with this post is not only did he always take me to art museums and discuss the art while I was growing up but he lived long enough to do the same with my daughter when she was a child. For some reason this post brought up very fond memories of my Dad who died in 1998.

The Zenobia in Chains is exquisite! And the other works are wonderful, too. I wasn’t aware of Hosmer. She sounds like an incredible woman. I’ll have to learn more about her now. Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. :0)

Carver; I was thinking of going – now I am not so sure. Hot and humid here this weekend

Aravis; we used to go when the girls were little all the time. that was what this day was about. turned out to be more like “lets humor mom”

a.decker; thanks so much. thank goodness I had the camera to capture the enthusiasm. eventually they got it up in a very small area in the park – where some manly man was telling us it was impossible to get a kite up there.

Seeing this made me realize something: I haven’t seen anyone fly a kite in forever! This is such a wooded area that it makes kite flying difficult, but still, we have fields and such. How strange!

You’ve certainly captured the essence of flight. I love Flights of Childhood. It’s beautiful and even more so considering the method used to produce it. I love the sculpture in the first picture, too.

I love the photo of the daffodils. I was born in Northern California during fire season. My mother says one of the things she remembers about the experience was the constant noise of the planes coming in and out of the airport to load up with water.

I’ve studied art history, but I don’t think I’ve ever followed the history of one piece of art. This was fascinating! Looking around the room, there are several other works hanging there that I would also like to see more closely. You need to go back and take pics of them all for me. *G*

Well, now that I have researched it…..my son, (the one who kept begging me to throw it out), keeps telling me to, “hold on to it, as it can only go up in value….” lol It sits up high on a book shelf where nothing can touch it….. (I keep thinking, “wow….I actually own art….” weird….)
