Blogtipping and Thinking Awards for April, May and June 2007
I am woefully behind on a tag for Thinking Blogger Award which I recieved from Rodrigvitz Style many days ago. [If you haven't visited Rodrigvitz Style in awhile take time to check out her lovely Peony Inspired piece!]
In addition I am missing blogtips for the months of April, May and June… (see; I said I was a little behind).
One, of several, excuses I have for being late is a road trip to Pasadena; where we visited The Huntington Museum among other places. My plan today is to combine blog tipping with thinking blogger awards and mix in some images from The Huntington.
In the spirit of Blogtipping; I am taking the time to tip my hat (and award a thinking blogger award) to three blogs, for each missing month – nine in total! According to Business Blogwire “Blogtipping is where you publish a blog post in which you link to three unsuspecting blogs. Blogtipping is a refreshing and useful surprise that can start a blogger’s month with a huge smile! Plus you get an appreciative link Business Blogwire if you do. The rules for a thinking blogger award are: 1. If you get tagged, write a post with links to 5 blogs that make you think! 2. Link to this post so that people can easily find the exact origin of the meme or blog that you enjoy. 3. Optional: Proudly display the ‘Thinking Blogger Award’ with a link to the post that you wrote. If you wish click on the art thumbs which will take you to information about a particular piece of art and related art information.
Crafty Green Poet, Alter Ego. Juliet Wilson (poet, reviewer and charity employee living in Edinburgh, Scotland) brings us these two blog – plus Bolts of Silk; a showcase beautiful poetry with something to say. Juliets Crafty Green Poet cover such topics as: poetry (152); haiku (76); crafts (58); re-use (58); One Deep Breath (51); birds (51); photos (46); review (39); books (32); In and around Edinburgh (31); Poetry Thursday (29); seasons (29); green lifestyle (22); art (18); nature diary (18); Sunday Scribblings (14); Inspire Me Thursday (13); Malawi (12); gifts (12); films (11); Festival of the Trees (10); Italy (10); climate change (9); rabbit (9); GPP Street Team (7); altered books (7); news (7); garden (5); tutoring (5); holidays (4); extinctions (3); art journals (2); music (1); tagged (1). But don’t stop there. Jump over to her Alter Ego which covering dark poetry, music and dancing. Plus reviews and a pretence to being multilingual.
Brandi Powell is one of the first artists I met when I started my blog. She came from my old stomping grounds in the Midwest. It has been a pleasure watching her bloom with her graphic design and visual art. Her website is a thing of beauty in constant change, featuring “modern expressionistic artwork relying on line, color and shape. Using a contemporary spin on cubist principles my subjects are broken down to line or basic form…” (artist statement) I noted that she recently won “Best of Show” Collateral Package in the GrandView College Graphic Design Competition!
Ces and Her Dishes II; Ces’s second blog, this time as a reluctant painter – the first as a Sunday Painter. Within the last year she has begun everyday drawings in a Moleskine ruled appointment notebooks. Other topics in Ces’s blog are: Isabella (27); Growing Up (10); Weekend (8); Drawing Pen and Ink (7); Illustration Friday (6); Oil Painting (5); Thursday 13 (5); Colored Diversion (4); Mother (4); Gardening (3); Monday ArtDay (3); Shoes (3); Best Friends (2); Drawing Pen and Colored Pencil (2); Snowflake (2); Ces And Her Dishes Part I (1); Drawing Ballpoint Pen (1); Epsilon (1); Fiesta (1); HBD (1); Meme By Ces (1); Work (1)
Nevermore – Jane Poe; “Words can paint a picture in your mind or tap the walls of your soul. They can be an adventure of the heart. Or less. Or more. But I shall be silent nevermore. Nevermore. ~ Deborah Smith Washington, US”. Poet/Haiku/Deep thoughts extraordinare; she’s been doing this a long time. Take a look at her 310th post: a short story dedicated to the country. She has blogging for a year now so I could not resist looking at her first post “You never forget your first post” where she vows to be silent ‘nevermore’.
The Believeing Soul; a writer with cynical optimism… and that is putting it mildly. She will have you laughing, then crying, back to laughing without pause. Case in point: check out this Thursday Thirteen “… So…Do any of you have dreams where your son is kidnapped by a child abuser, and you hunt them down and HACK the guy up with a huge machete before the cops get there? Like Kill Bill style? All the while grinding your teeth in your sleep until you wake up with your heart beating hard and your jaw hurting? No? Just me?…Hmmm. Interesting….” Randomly look through her archives you will find topics such as: crushes (”… Because really! How many times do you have to tell them where the coffee cups go? Do they not live in the house, too? Why the musical cupboards with the freakin’ coffee cups?!…) and “a little bullshit” (Today I was in the kitchen, when I heard from the other room: “That’s bullshit”. “What did you just say, Wyatt?” Without missing a beat, he tells me, “I didn’t say bulllllshit, mom. I said it was a blue ship. You misunderstood.” …Now, I don’t know if I should worry that he didn’t cuss, but that he knew right off the bat what I thought he said, or if he did cuss, but I should be proud he was smart enough to come up with a word that sounded so much like bullshit so fast, to cover his ass. And, I just have no idea where he heard that word. *Ah-hem.*… ) and “Two conversations I had today” (… When we got back from the gym today (yah me!), I found a Fed-Ex envelope waiting on our rocker by the front door. I opened it without looking at the info, only to find tickets for a Hawaiian cruz, made out to some lucky duck who was not me.
It had our address on the envelope, and also on the tickets. So I called the travel agency, and found my way through the voice mail maze, only to be put on hold. Twice. Then when I was finally able to explain the issue to a live person, she asked me if “out of the kindness of my heart” I would drive down to the Fed-Ex office, and mail it back to them.
I told her no, I wouldn’t be doing that…) Other interests: children, psychology, writing, family, art, religion and spirit.
Sixth and Elm; fellow Etsy store owner – Chantelle Finley (Tremblay). We have just recently e-met through a Etsy Webring. Truth be told; it was this itty bitty purple sofa that caught my attention in her store. oh and the Abstract Pyrography Wooden Box and the Pixie Dust Sign and the Scented Oil Diffuser… Etsy and Humour are favorite topics on her blog.
Princess Haiku; a literary collage of poetry, prose, photography, classical music, dance and book reviews, written in the tradition of a poetic memoir. I see she was already awarded the thinking blog award. Some favorite posts: A childhood meme; artistic freedom and Jim Morrison; Poppies in Rain; Spirit Photos. Take a peek at her guestbook. If you enjoy wishlists, she has one.
Qazse; wrestling with congruency… I only tonight realized there is a second blog: twisp dedicated to Haiku such as CNNxiety. Qazse makes us think by addressing controversial subjects such as 9/11, Armagedden, Dogs of War, Evildoers, New Orleans, Rumsfield, Walter Reed Hospital… so many other categories! There is a hint to Qazse’s history in the ‘when I was young‘ and ‘Quazse‘ categories

My show is coming up in 2 weeks and I am both excited and nervous but mostly I will be a little happy to have it completed so I can get back to normal. I think I might spend a lot of time over-preparing since this is my first one and havent had time to blog with my friends or anything else it seems.
Anyway, will be back full swing in July! Thank you so much – since I am already here – I cant pass up checking out your new stuff!!
Oh – I plan to open an etsy store by the end of the summer so I will see you there too!
Wow, me with all these talented artists! Thanks. *blush*
I came by here at about 12 AM last night, but turned off my computer when I realized i was falling asleep. (not sleeping well). But I was going to say that your last post was powerful and sad.
But no wonder you got a “thinking blogger” award… Just about all of your pieces make me stop and think.

[...] I may have been raised in Ontario, but I was born in rural Saskatchewan and I am, therefore, very familiar with the teenage dairy pastime of cow-tipping. When Ascender Rises Above left me a note to say I was the most recent recipient of some blog-tipping on her part I was worried, to say the least. Even to those who have never heard of cow-tipping must agree it cannot be a pleasant experience for the poor cow, so I held my breath, steeled myself and followed the link. [...]
