“Think, in mounting higher, The angels would press on us, and aspire To drop some golden orb of perfect song Into our deep, dear silence.”

Christmas morning at Santa Cruz.
Some people believe that an orb within a photo is a ghost or angel or spirit actualizing itself for the camera. They feel that orbs are actually spiritual manifestations that are extensions of consciousness; that when we’re not in a physical form we often travel in a light sphere.
I am not sure I believe that; though, I mentioned one appearing in a photo I took in the parlor at Winchester House.
The opposing school maintains that a fairly clear-cut case of flash or ambient light reflection off of dust, particles, insects, or moisture droplets in the air in front of the camera distorted by the digital cameras CCD lens being unable to focus. There are a number of naturalistic causes for orbs in photography and videography: Solid orbs – Dry particulate matter such as dust, pollen, insects, etc. Liquid orbs – Droplets of liquid, usually water, e.g. rain. Foreign material on the camera lens, or within the camera lens, or within the camera body.

I love the shot, orb and all. I would like to take a long walk on that beach. Truly beautiful. I hope you year is off to a good start.
And what do you think? I think there are many things we don’t understand, and might be surprised if we only knew…
I was born in Santa Cruz.
I know that exact spot! I haven’t walked out on that cement ship for years. I love the orb. Could be an old sailor.
Hi Asc. I have had more than a few orbs recently – ALL definitely attributable to raindrops on my lens.
I am never too sure what to believe. Many of my orb shots I attributed to stirred up dust. But I do have two very unusual pictures that tend to disprove it.
I love that beach shot BTW>
