Genuine oilcloth, the real thing grandma had on her kitchen table was made from cotton duck, canvas or linen that was coated several times with linseed oil to give it a waterproof-ish surface. The fabric could be dyed or printed before the linseed treatment. Genuine oilcloth is biodegradable in a landfill. Make your own.
Strawberry Field was the name of a Salvation Army Children’s Home just around the corner from John Lennon’s childhood home in Woolton, a suburb of Liverpool. Lennon’s “Strawberry Fields Forever” and McCartney’s “Penny Lane” both shared the theme of nostalgia for their early years in Liverpool.
Strawberry Alarm Clock, a psychedelic rock/pop rock band from Los Angeles, best known for their 1967 hit “Incense and Peppermints” took its name as an homage to ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’.
