‘I want to think about that...’ can be dangerous words.

First impressions are important when you are asking for backing from a bank or lender. A well-organized business plan is essential for a lender or investor to assess both your financial proposal and you as a business manager.

As a small business owner you want to ensure that everyone who meets you forms a positive first impression; after that, they’ll be predisposed to think favorably of you. Poor preparation places unnecessary obstacles in the way of your funding application and may even lead to the failure of a good idea to secure the right backing. Creating a good first impression is especially crucial if you provide a service; every face-to-face contact you make reflects upon your service (and your business).

Preparing a Business Plan will generate a lot of thought and a lot of paper! Keep in mind, however, that the final document is a summary of your planning process. It is the initial presentation that alerts your potential lender to take a closer look at your business, to pick it out from the crowd. Every physical representation of a company's image that people notice, whether it's a letter written on the corporate stationery, a brochure or annual report, a logo in an ad, or a sign offers an opportunity to win respect and admiration. Any business can successfully shape favorable consumer opinion by intelligently controlling these many forms of their communication program.
